Building Construction & Materials
This module teaches the basic building construction and materials used in the construction industry from small to medium-scale buildings. It helps us to identify the building elements in common materials through their properties, characteristics, and function in various uses. There are 2 assignments and an exam in this module.
In this assignment, we are required to conduct a case study on a starchitect, to identify the building materials and elements used, and to justify why they were used based on context, budget, and design, etc.

The building I choose for this assignment was 8 Tallet or AKA 8 House by Bjarke Ingels Group.
Project 1
Project 2
Project 2 was a group assignment between the architecture students and interior architecture courses. In a group, we are required to draw orthographic drawings of a built small to medium-scale building. The building we choose was a corner lot terrace house. To either draw the building made with RC or with full timber construction. This allows us to identify different building materials and elements better based on real-life buildings on the drawings in the plan, section and elevation.

In my group, I was in charge of drawing the sectional drawings as seen in the images below.
Reflection
The projects in assignments 1 and 2, taught me a lot. Project 1 thought me how to apply different types of materials for different contexts and designs. It taught me how to identify the varieties of materials either double-glazed or triple-glazed windows. The mechanism behind each material is based on physical properties and characteristics. I gained plenty of knowledge from this assignment and applied what I learned in lectures and think and research these materials more.

Project 2 in my opinion was hard, as we had to completely change an originally built-in RC building into a timber-constructed building. However, it made me remember the terms and ideology of each material more compared to reading it only. The model was really fun to make as a group, it felt like making a dream house for a barbie doll. Other than that, this assignment allowed me to identify different drawing symbols for different materials from the plan, section, and elevation views and to apply them in future modules.
