Architectural Design 1
This module is an introduction to architectural design that aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of "self" and the body, construction, and materiality in terms of tectonics. Students will approach design thinking and basic spatial design through a series of fundamental methods, principles, and approaches. This enhances the understanding of anthropometrics and designing interpersonal spaces with creative exercises involving body movements and experiences of the user.
01
Geometry and Form
This assignment requires us to explore and design abstract tattoo stamps using design principles and elements thought in the lecture classes. After that, we are required to translate the 2D to 3D using form, organization, and proportion. We then have to translate the ideas into a 10x10 cm model. Each student is required to produce 3 models from 3 tattoo stamps.
02
Structure and body
For this assignment, we are introducing and creating awareness of anthropometry and ergonomics relating to form and space. Other than that we are introducing design principles and architectural terminologies on applications of the spatial form and configuration. Then continuing to create a structure using bamboo on installation and understanding the material, quality of space, human scale, and articulation of form.
03
Space and sensory
Looking back at project 2 and deconstructing it into a sensory space. We will have to develop a tectonic structure and choose a dominant emotion. Then create a design intention base on project 2. Other than that we have to re-explore the relationships between structure and emotions. Our structure should also show an understanding of materials and explore spatial relationships while capturing the essence in a poetic way. Developing our ideas to generate a sensorial experience with a combination of things learned throughout the semester. We are to produce study models and orthographic drawings.
